Let’s Talk About Forgiveness

Have you ever wanted to discuss the elephant in the room? I’m currently Assistant Pastor of Grace City Church in Federal Way, WA. “Let’s Talk” is a new video blog we launched to discuss real life issues.

Forgiveness is such a common and broad topic, but we narrowed it down to two themes that are uncommon: Myth of Forgiveness and the Call to Radical Forgiveness. John chapter 13 verses 34 and 35 reveals a New Commandment:

” So now I am giving you a new commandment: Love each other. Just as I have loved you, you should love each other. Your love for one another will prove to the world that you are my disciples.”

How can we love people that have brought hurt into our lives? What do you consider unforgivable? New Commandment: LOVE EACH OTHER, and the world will know that you are followers of Christ. Jesus’ released forgiveness freely (Luke 23:34), will you?

Please leave your comments and SHARE with your friends and family. Now, LET’S TALK about Forgiveness. REAL TALK.

The Truth About Halloween

Halloween~ Mean Girls dress naughty and Mean Boys dress to kill; hence the spirit of seduction has been birthed. The greatest deception known to mankind found in Genesis chapter 3, roams pop-culture and it has birthed an interesting spirit within the hearts of many Christians. Many blogs and articles have been eloquently written about the history of halloween and describe personal beliefs. I’m not here to give a history lesson (Google it) and/or judge against those that celebrate Halloween. My main objective is to simply stir awareness of an unseen spiritual world. The Truth about Halloween.

I currently reside in the Pacific Northwest and there is something you have to understand. There is a strong community of New Age religions, psychics and other cult affiliations. The occult is prominent in the greater Seattle area. Many psychics and new agers travel around the world to the infamous Mount Rainier (45 minutes from my neighborhood), believing to gather their psychic powers and other spiritual rituals. Certain public schools in our area forbid students to dress in Halloween attire because it taunts the witches and they do not like it. Have you ever heard of the term “shape-shifting?” Hollywood made it very popular in the epic films of The Twilight Saga. A strong attractive native american boy named Jacob turns himself into a wolf with awesome film effects. Let’s first take a look at “Shape-shifting.”

According to Wikipedia, shape-shifting is the ability of a being to physically transform into another form or being, either as an inherent faculty of a mythological creature, or by means of magic. By far the most common form of shape-shifting is therianthropy, the transformation of a human being into an animal.

There have been many accounts of witches heavily involved in witchcraft, they are able to shape-shift into various images. A testimony was told to me of a Apostolic family here in the state of Washington, drove a visiting guest back home after church. The guest told the family to stop the car in the middle of the road, the individual stepped out and jumped into the field shifting into a deer. The practice of witchcraft is real and the scheme of Satan has become sugarcoated. Some will beg to differ about such things, but I say, if there is good than there is evil. To many, evil is good and they joyfully embrace it, “ What sorrow for those who say that evil is good and good is evil, that dark is light and light is dark, that bitter is sweet and sweet is bitter.” (Isaiah 5:20 NLT)

It does not surprise me that many Christians and well-known Pastors celebrate Halloween. Considering a current trend of Missional outreach and the theory of becoming “unchurched” for the unchurched. I understand the concept and I’m all for missional evangelism and thinking outside the box, but we have taken Mark 2:13-17 out of context. Jesus’ sat with sinners, but he did not participate in their sin. What gives us the right to participate in darkness when we are called to be light? “ You are the light of the world-like a city on a hilltop that cannot be hidden.” (Matthew 5:14 NLT) Yes! We are the light and hope of the world. Some will say, “ well, since we are the light, we must go to the dark side and be the light.” But being the light does not mean to participate in the actions of the dark.“ Don’t team up with those who are unbelievers. How can righteousness be a partner with wickedness? How can light live with darkness? “ (2 Corinthians 6:14 NLT) If you are going to be the light, BE THE LIGHT. Do not mix with darkness, rather lead people to Christ by your actions, faith, words and lifestyle.

It’s imperative to understand that there is a spiritual warfare around us in an unseen world. “ For we are not fighting against flesh-and-blood enemies, but against evil rulers and authorities of the unseen world, against might powers in this dark world, and against evil spirits in the heavenly places. “ (Ephesians 6:12 NLT) The bible clearly speaks of an unseen spiritual warfare. The battle of Eden (Genesis 3) continues to rage against all Christ Followers. We must stand guard and not become blinded by sugarcoated fruit, “ Did God really say? “ (Genesis 3:1) I’m all for community events, but we must not allow ourselves to become lost in darkness. I would like to put a disclaimer to all that read this. I’m only presenting biblical truths and it’s my personal conviction to not participate in Halloween. I’m not here to judge, only God can judge the heart of man. Celebrating Halloween is not connected to your salvation. So therefore, it’s not a salvation issue, but it is an issue of blaspheming the Holy Spirit. Allowing Darkness (Satan and his Schemes) to take the place of Light (God), is simply called Idolatry. God will not tolerate our pagan idol worship of false gods and satanic rituals (Exodus 20:3-6) In fact, if we become disobedient to biblical truths, we become involved in witchcraft: “ Rebellion is as sinful as witchcraft, and stubbornness as bad as worshiping idols. “ (1 Samuel 15:23 NLT) An offense against the Holy Spirit has an eternal consequence, “ but anyone who blasphemes the Holy Spirit will never be forgiven. This is a sin with eternal consequences. “ (Mark 3:29 NLT) The bible speaks of a lost generation and indulging in their pleasurable lust in Romans 1:18-32. Verse 21-23 paints a current picture of Christ followers celebrating the spirit of Halloween.

“ Yes, they knew God, but they wouldn’t worship him as God or even give him thanks. And they began to think up foolish ideas of what God was like. As a result, their minds became dark and confused. Claiming to be wise, they instead became utter fools. And instead of worshipping the glorious, ever-living God, they worshiped idols made to look like mere people and birds and animals and reptiles. “ (Romans 1:21-23 NLT)

A generation that claims to know God, but yet do not worship him as God. Another scripture state’s it this way, “ Such people claim they know God, but they deny him by the way they live. They are detestable and disobedient, worthless for doing anything good. “ (Titus 1:16 NLT) Worshiping idols that look like people, birds, animals and reptiles (Halloween Costumes). I grew up in a Pastoral conservative home and never took interest in celebrating Halloween. In fact, I use to enjoy spying and laughing at trick or treaters with my siblings. It was hilarious to see all the parents dragging their innocent children into such a trick (I got a kick out of it and still do). Halloween is not a Treat, but a Trick against many Christians. Just think about it as I leave you with one last biblical truth.

“ So, my dear friends, flee from the worship of idols. You are reasonable people. Decide for yourselves if what I am saying is true. When we bless the cup at the Lord’s Table, aren’t we sharing in the blood of Christ? And when we break the bread, aren’t we sharing in the body of Christ? And though we are many, we all eat from one loaf of bread, showing that we are one body. Think about the people of Israel. Weren’t they united by eating the sacrifices at the altar? What am I trying to say? Am I saying that food offered to idols has some significance, or that idols are real gods? No, not at all. I am saying that these sacrifices are offered to demons, not to God. And I don’t want you to participate with demons. You cannot drink from the cup of the Lord and from the cup of demons, too. You cannot eat at the Lord’s table and at the table of demons, too. What? Do we dare to rouse the Lord’s jealousy? Do you think we are stronger than he is? You say ,“ I am allowed to do anything ”-but not everything is good for you. You say, “ I am allowed to do anything. ” but not everything is beneficial. Don’t be concerned for you own good but for the good of others. “ (1 Corinthians 10:14-24 NLT)

With that said, enjoy your candy.
